Pearl of the night: an ode to the moon

Pearl of the night: an ode to the moon

Hail to you, who makes the night-sky bloom,
Blessed be you, who removes our despair and gloom,
And praise be unto you, oh lord of the silent night,
As we merrily welcome your divine, purifying light!

Oh giver of peace, singer of night's unsung song,
Thank you for your cold aura, that you bring along
From some unseen heaven, together with your beams
That bring us joy, mirth and the happiest dreams.

Hail to your brightening, all-pervading, effusive glow,
That stirs the silent air, trees and all creatures below,
Oh! How shall I sing an ode capable of expressing thee!
Oh bringer of soothing sleep, and bringer of glee?

As you rise at the end of the scarlet, sun-shone day,
As you make through the sky your white, luminous way,
We gather beneath you, and together sing your praise
Drinking in your aura, and bathed in your rays!

Oh distant, radiant pearl of the serene, starlit sky,
Silence of the night and the nature's misty sigh
All accentuate the glory, and beauty of your gleam,
As it dissolves into waters of each river and stream.

How shall I paint an image, with my trembling pen,
With words as my colours, and imagery the stain,
Which shall depict your fairness in its whole,
Together with the aura of your bright, benevolent soul?

Oh Angel of Night, together your holy shine we behold,
You the fairest silver, that follows the sun of gold.
Be adored and praised when, following the end of days,
We welcome your immortal light, with our mortal gaze!
