Micromax A110 Stock ROM V2, a review

The one phone that rocked Indian users

Much is to be said about this singular event in which an Indian company has been seen releasing an update for an existing device. Micromax A110 Canvas 2 can be rightly called the flagship device of Micromax, and even though there are plenty of features power-packed into this very economically priced device, there's always room for more improvement. Recently, Micromax released an upgraded version of its Stock ROM for the device. After installing and trying it in real time, I found the following major changes:

1. The intensity of the dual LED flash has been vastly increased, about 150% of original intensity. The original ROM could not utilize the actual capacity of the dual LED due to poor coding, and thus the upgraded ROM takes the advantage of the device fully. Still, taking photos in poorly-lit or totally dark environments is a mess. 
2. The headset button is actually working now. Many of the users, including me, saw that headset button wasn't working with any trick in the first ROM. This has been cleared off in this update.
3. Sound quality is slightly improved, but not very noticeably.
4. Battery consumption rate has been slightly lowered, making the device last longer with a full charge.
5. Internal storage is being managed in a better way, with 1.5 GB of space being offered for apps and their storage, and 1 GB for internal SD card. But this can only be utilized if the new ROM is flashed using the standard process, and not just using a backup of V2 ROM. 
6. Performance is slightly better than original V1 ROM, with more free RAM available for use.
7. Apps can now be shifted to your external storage even without rooting.

So now, since Micromax apparently doesn't have the resource to release the update directly over web, they're just shipping newer A110s with this ROM. But thankfully, we always have XDA and its active dev community to aid us in porting the ROM to our current device.

In my opinion, the first procedure using a backup of V2 is much easier and safer. Be sure to backup your original ROM first, in case anything goes wrong.

NOTE: Some users reported a decrease in colours output, and I did that too. But that won't affect much of your day to day experience.
