How to bring back 12 MP camera on SUVI ROM V6 or Micromax Official V3 ROM for Canvas A110

Bring back 12 MP camera on Micromax Official Jellybean Upgrade or SUVI V6 Jupiter

For many of us Micromax A110 users, the recent upgrade released by Micromax officially for A110 is a bliss, because it packs together the beauty and smoothness of Jellybean, is much faster (thanks to project butter) and additionally sports a native kernel for the device. But however, as per Micromax policies, we see that the camera has been reverted to 8 MP max (main) and 0.3 MP max (front). While MediaTek, the processor supporting the phone, supports a maximum of 8 MP shots, recent releases of other firmwares for the device such as Mobistel Cynus T2 ROM and Lewa ROM etc pack 12 MP cameras each. As such, many of us techies who previously switched to those ROMs for enjoying the beauty of Jellybean (when the only ROMs released by Micromax officially were ICS ones) enjoyed larger shots with the 12 MP camera.


Having changed the camera quality to 12 MP doesn't greatly improve your photo quality, but remember that it makes shots more massive (in terms of megabytes) and those shots are certainly larger. Clarity however could be an issue, but I didn't face or notice any decrease in clarity even after switching to 12 MP camera (and most others didn't either).

So, if you're happy with the 8 MP camera provided with Official V3 JB ROM provided by Micromax, or the same provided by the recent release of the famous SUVI series V6 Jupiter, no problem. Or else, you are free to switch to 12 MP one, and enjoy both an 8 MP max camera (the main camera app, Camera ICS+, etc) as well as a 12 MP max one.

Here's the procedure:

It's better than the default camera app in many ways.
1. First of all, remember that you need to first have an installation of JMP ROM or native Mobistel Cynus T2 ROM etc, that is, any ROM that sports a 12 MP max camera. You most certainly have a rooted phone then, because that's a necessity to have those ROMs installed on the first place (if not you've just used the stock recovery to flash default Mobistel ROM and not rooted it).

2. Secondly, you need Titanium backup and restore, one of the most famous tools available on Google Play for, yeah you got it right, backing up and restoring applications and application data. You also need to have CameraMX, a nice and free alternative camera available for free on Google Play (this particular app is important!).

3. Now, install and open CameraMX. Set its resolution (in the app settings) to max High 13 MP (actually it's still 12).

4. Open Titanium and take a backup of your CameraMX installation, fully with data.

5. Replace your Titanium backup folder of your new ROM (on the SD card) with the Titanium Backup folder of the other ROM (i.e the ROM having 12 MP camera).

6. Now, install and open Titanium backup and restore on your new ROM (you've rooted it, right?). Restore CameraMX APP + DATA (important!), and reboot your device. Boot back, and you've got your 12 MP camera ready on CameraMX on your new ROM. If it still doesn't, just go to CameraMX settings and set the resolution to High 13MP.

NOTE: If you simply install CameraMX from Google Play on your new ROM, you'll see that it supports a maximum of 8 MP resolution. So, remember to follow this procedure.

You can update your CameraMX as many times as you want, but NEVER EVER WIPE DATA of this app. Or else you'll fall back to 8 MP.

Finally, take a shot with CameraMX, and even with the ROM supporting 8 MP max resolution, you'll see that the shot has 4000x3000 pixels resolution, i.e 12 MP. :)

The same goes for the front camera. Just set it to High 1MP setting on CameraMX.

Important: This doesn't change the default camera of your new ROM. It still remains 8 MP. But then, you have both options to try. The process also doesn't affect the clarity of 8 MP camera in any way.
